Carson-Newman Cross Country Has Strong Showing At Belmont Abbey Invitational

BELMONT, N.C. - The Carson-Newman men's and women's cross country teams had strong showings at the Belmont Abbey Invitational today, both capturing second place.

The Lady Eagles finished 2nd out of 7 teams with 50 points. Carson-Newman was led by senior Aubrey Morris (Chattanooga, Tenn.). Morris captured the individual women's title with a time of 18:30. Finishing behind Morris in third place with a time of 18:59.03 was junior Tiffany Winchell (White Pine, Tenn.). Junior Cara Hawkins (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and sophomore Melissa Ford finished 12th and 14th respectively to propel the women's team to a second place finish.

In men's action, Carson-Newman finished 2nd out of 7 teams as well with 66 points. Sophomore Jonathan Madden (Franklin, Tenn.) led the way for the Eagles capturing sixth place with a time 28:55. Also adding to the Eagles' second place effort was freshman Chris Cowan-Banker (Knoxville, Tenn.), junior Wyatt Miles (Long Island, Va.), and sophomore Ben Fry (Georgetown, Tenn.). Cowan-Banker crossed the finish line with a time of 29:24 to earn eighth place, while Miles and Fry finished 12th and 18th.

The Carson-Newman cross country teams will be back in action Saturday, October 25, at the South Atlantic Conference Championships in Newberry, S.C.
