Eagles Rogers signs with Nationals, Ferguson signs with Orioles
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Former Carson-Newman shortstop Mills Rogers (Simpsonville, S.C.) and pitcher D.J. Ferguson (Jupiter, Fla.) have signed contracts with major league franchises.
Rogers signed with the Washington Nationals and has been assigned to the Vermont Lake Monsters, a Class A affiliate of the Nationals. Ferguson signed with the Baltimore Orioles and has been assigned to the Gulf Coast League Orioles in Sarasota, Fla.
Rogers, who was named Daktronics All-Region this season, batted .378 this season in leading the Eagles to a 31-18 record. The senior led the team with 18 doubles. He was third on the team with 10 home runs, 50 runs scored, and 58 RBIs.
A first team All-South Atlantic Conference selection at shortstop, Rogers turned in a number of memorable games in his final season as an Eagle, including a two-home run performance in an 11-2 win over King College.
Ferguson finished his senior season as the team leader with six wins, closing the year with a 6-4 record. His 3.60 ERA led the team among pitchers with more than 10 appearances, and held opponents to a .243 average.
