Eagles Split Saturday Doubleheader in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Carson-Newman Eagles baseball team (1-2) split a doubleheader with the Augusta State Jaguars (2-1), losing in the first contest 5-4 while picking up a 10-0 victory in the second game to close out play at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The second game featured a complete game shutout victory for Eagle right-handed starter Quinton Yocom (1-0), who pitched seven innings while only allowing four hits as he struck out five in the first Carson-Newman victory of the season.

Eagles drop season opener 10-6
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Carson-Newman Eagles baseball team fell in their first game of the 2013 season, losing 10-6 to the Augusta State Jaguars at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Friday afternoon. An eight-run bottom of the fifth inning for Augusta State powered the Jaguars to victory, with the main damage coming from left fielder Nate Crown on his 3-run double in the inning to give the Jaguars a 6-4 lead.

Cishek to pitch for Team USA in World Baseball Classic
MIAMI – Former Carson-Newman standout and Miami Marlins relief pitcher Steve Cishek was named to the Team USA provisional roster for the 2013 World Baseball Classic, announced by Major League Baseball on Thursday. Cishek, who pitched for the Eagles from 2005-07, collected 15 saves with a 2.69 ERA in 68 appearances last year for the Marlins as he earned the closer role in the Miami bullpen.

Wingate breaks away late to eliminate Eagles in SAC Tourney
FOREST CITY, N.C.—A grand slam by Jacob Karr broke open a tight game and the Bulldogs poured it on in the late innings to earn a 17-2 victory over Carson-Newman and advance to the championship round of the 2012 Food Lion SAC Baseball Championship. Karr’s grand slam in the top of the eighth turned a two-run Wingate lead into an 8-2 cushion. Karr’s grand slam was one of his two hits on the night. Thomas Spitz slammed two homers and drove in five runs for the Bulldogs. Wingate hit five home runs on the night. The Bulldogs advance to the championship round to face Tusculum at 1 p.m. tomorrow. Carson-Newman is eliminated from the tournament.

Koeneman, Eagles advance with win over Catawba, 7-5
FOREST CITY, N.C.— Carson-Newman led by as many as six runs, but had to stave off a late rally by Catawba to earn a 7-5 victory in the third round of the 2012 Food Lion SAC Baseball Championship. Carson-Newman led 7-1 through six innings, but Catawba rallied for four runs to keep the outcome in doubt until the end. Carson-Newman was led by SAC Player of the Year Kyle Koeneman with two hits, including a three-run homer. Chris Dula had two hits and two RBI for Catawba. Carson-Newman faces Wingate tonight, with the winner advancing to tomorrow’s championship round. Catawba is eliminated from the tournament.

SALISBURY, NC -- Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC/McMichael HS) went 6-for-7 from the plate with four RBI as Catawba defeated Carson-Newman 13-6 in game one and lost 4-3 in the second Saturday afternoon at Newman Park. The Indians are 28-8 overall and 19-2 in the SAC while the Eagles go to 19-20 and 10-11. The Indians did the bulk of their damage in game one during the second frame off reliever Brandon Timmerman who had to come in for starter Robby Thigpen after just one inning due to an arm injury.

Saturday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex. The Eagles won game one, 7-4, while Thigpen’s effort led the win in game two, 2-1. Cishek to pitch for Team USA in World Baseball Classic

FOREST CITY, N.C.—A grand slam by Jacob Karr broke open a tight game and the Bulldogs poured it on in the late innings to earn a 17-2 victory over Carson-Newman and advance to the championship round of the 2012 Food Lion SAC Baseball Championship. Karr’s grand slam in the top of the eighth turned a two-run Wingate lead into an 8-2 cushion. Karr’s grand slam was one of his two hits on the night. Thomas Spitz slammed two homers and drove in five runs for the Bulldogs. Wingate hit five home runs on the night. The Bulldogs advance to the championship round to face Tusculum at 1 p.m. tomorrow. Koeneman, Eagles advance with win over Catawba, 7-5
FOREST CITY, N.C.— Carson-Newman led by as many as six runs, but had to stave off a late rally by Catawba to earn a 7-5 victory in the third round of the 2012 Food Lion SAC Baseball Championship. Carson-Newman led 7-1 through six innings, but Catawba rallied for four runs to keep the outcome in doubt until the end. Carson-Newman was led by SAC Player of the Year Kyle Koeneman with two hits, including a three-run homer. Chris Dula had two hits and two RBI for Catawba. Carson-Newman faces Wingate tonight, with the winner advancing to tomorrow’s championship round. Catawba is eliminated from the tournament.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Carson-Newman Eagles are the No. 5 seed and will face No. 2 seed Catawba in the 2012 Food Lion SAC Baseball Championship, which gets underway on Thursday in Forest City, N.C. The Eagles clinched a berth in the tournament with a 12-4 win against Newberry on Saturday. Catawba won the season series with the Eagles, 2-1, winning the first two games of a three-game series in late March.

MIAMI - Miami Marlins relief pitcher Steve Cishek describes himself as a “relatively quite guy”. His former coach at Carson-Newman, Tom Griffin, says Cishek is as humble as they come. That’s in stark contrast to Miami’s new skipper, Ozzie Guillen, who is known for his fiery persona and occasional tirade. Yet, Cishek has loved every minute of spring training in Florida in 2012. SALISBURY, NC -- Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC/McMichael HS) went 6-for-7 from the plate with four RBI as Catawba defeated Carson-Newman 13-6 in game one and lost 4-3 in the second Saturday afternoon at Newman Park. The Indians are 28-8 overall and 19-2 in the SAC while the Eagles go to 19-20 and 10-11. The Indians did the bulk of their damage in game one during the second frame off reliever Brandon Timmerman who had to come in for starter Robby Thigpen after just one inning due to an arm injury.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Senior Austin Bridgewater (Morristown, Tenn.) allowed one run in 7.1 innings of work and Cody Nix (Cartersville, Ga.) belted a three-run triple as Carson-Newman beat No. 27 Limestone, 8-2, in their home finale on Tuesday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex. In the final home game for eight Eagle seniors, the group combined for seven of C-N’s eight hits on the day and five times.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Carson-Newman baseball team has added nine signees to the 2010 recruiting class, head coach Tom Griffin announced Tuesday.

2009 Eagle Baseball Season Recap
The Carson-Newman Eagles finished their 2009 campaign 24-21 overall and 7-14 in South Atlantic Conference play. C-N opened the year ranked as high as No. 34 in pre season polls, and climbed as high as No. 12 nationally by the middle of February on the strength of sweep of nationally-ranked Northern Kentucky in Jefferson City.
