The Carson-Newman baseball team erupted for 32 runs and 40 hits en route to a pair of wins over Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex. Senior Mills Rogers (Simpsonville, S.C.) drilled a ninth-inning grand slam to lift the Eagles to an 11-5 win in game two, as Carson-Newman split a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with Augusta State (Ga.) at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Ga.. C-N lost game one to the Jaguars, 10-3. With the split, the Eagles are 1-1 on the season. JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman baseball team hopes a wealth of experience and a group of talented newcomers will lead to a third NCAA Tournament appearance in four seasons, as it begins its 2010 campaign this weekend. Carson-Newman opens its season on Friday afternoon against Augusta State University. The Eagles and Jaguars meet in for a four-game series beginning Friday at 3 p.m. Saturdays doubleheader begins at noon, while the series finale on Sunday is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch. All four games are at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Ga.

Senior first baseman Derek Long (Jefferson City, Tenn.) was a selected to the first team, while senior shortstop Mills Rogers (Simpsonville, S.C.) and junior outfielder Evan Patterson (Knoxville, Tenn.) were each named to the second team.

Orange Jack O'Lanterns win fifth game of series and win overall runs scored title
Jeff Lockwood's grand slam in 6th inning helped the Orange Team to a 11-1 win in extra innings to decide the total runs scored in the series. The Blue Team had a 24-15 lead going into the 5th game, but the Orange won the overall score with a dramatic win in extra innings.
