C-N's Orange and Blue Spring Game Set for Thursday

March 3, 2009

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman football team will hold its Orange and Blue Spring Game on Thursday afternoon, Eagle head coach Ken Sparks announced today.

The scrimmage will begin at 4 p.m. in Burke-Tarr Stadium as the Eagles begin to wind down spring practice.

"Its been an interesting spring," Sparks said of his team's first two weeks of practice. "We've worked in a few new coaches, but the thing that has stood out to me has been the amount of bodies we have watching practice. We've got a small football team on the sideline with injuries."

In the midst of adding three new coaches, Sparks himself has added a new role this spring. The Eagles' head coach in now C-N's quarterbacks coach.

He'll guide a pair of seniors, led by two-time All-South Atlantic Conference selection Alex Good (Greensboro, N.C.) and Alex Rouse (Maryville, Tenn.), this fall.

Rouse is seeing his first action since a knee injury in last spring's Orange and Blue Game. The sixth-year senior is working at both quarterback and wide receiver.

C-N will scrimmage again on Saturday as part of the 20th Annual Carson-Newman Football Championship Coaching Clinic. That workout will also be in Burke-Tarr Stadium.

Both scrimmages are open to the public and admission is free.
