C-N's Robinson, Ashby Garner All-SAC Men's Golf Honors

ROCK HILL, SC -- Carson-Newman junior Brad Robinson (Johnson City, Tenn.) and freshman Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) earned men's golf All-South Atlantic Conference honors, league officials announced Sunday.

Robinson was named first team All-SAC first team, while Ashby was selected to the second team All-SAC.

Robinson led the Eagles with a scoring average of 73.2, which was ranked third in the SAC. He turned in four top 10 finishes, including a win at the Johnny Palmer Invitational on Feb. 24 and a second place showing at the State Farm Laker Collegiate on Sept. 30.

Ashby turned in two top 10 performances this season, including a fifth place finish at the Johnny Palmer Invitational on Feb. 24. His scoring average of 75.3 ranked second on the team and 11th in the SAC.

Tusculum College's Chase Carroll, who set a conference record with his scoring average, was named the SAC Men's Golf Player of the Year and was named the Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete for the third year in a row.

The awards were presented Sunday night at Etowah Valley Country Club in Etowah, N.C., where the 2009 Food Lion SAC men's and women's golf championships are being held.

Newberry's Matthew Campbell, who averaged 74.7 strokes in his first season and had a fourth-place finish in the Honda Columbia Fall Classic and tied for fifth in the Matlock Intercollegiate tournament, was named the SAC men's golf Freshman of the Year.

Newberry's Brian McCants was named the Men's Golf Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.

Joining Carroll on the Men's All-SAC First Team are: Brevard's Grant Carnie, Robinson, Newberry's Daniel Stanley and Newberry's Ben Lown.

The second team consists of Ashby, Catawba's Eric Schmehl, Lenoir-Rhyne's Kent George, Mars Hill's Nate Lockey and Campbell.
