Eagles fall to University of West Alabama, 5-2

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. - The Eagles fell to the University of West Alabama 5-2. Carson-Newman falls to 1-2 in season play.
C-N led doubles play, taking wins in the No.1 and 3 matches. The Rudolpho and Guiseppe Schwarz (Brazil) pair took over West Alabama's Gardner and Cruz 8-4 in the No. 1 match. In No. 2 competition, Delgado and Shaykhelislamov defeated Jack Harvie (Snellville, Ga.) and Chris Acker (Knoxville, Tenn.) 8-3. C-N found a win in the No. 3 match as Adriano Kira (Brazil) and Trent Slagle (Knoxville, Tenn.) slid past Tighe and Nunnes 9-8.
The Eagles were swept by West Alabama in singles play. In the No. 1 spot, Harive fell to Gardner 6-0, 6-3. Delgado took over Slagle 6-3, 6-1. In the No. 3 match, Shaykhelislamov won over Kira 6-3, 6-0. The No. 4 and 6 matches were suspended. Acker fell to Cruz, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 match.
The Eagles play again on March 8 at home against Francis Marion University.
