Eagles Edge Lenoir-Rhyne on the Courts

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman men's tennis team remained undefeated in the South Atlantic Conference by edging past Lenoir-Rhyne 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the SAC.
C-N won two out of the three doubles matches to build a 2-1 lead. L-R's Barry Fichardt and John Fichardt defeated the Eagles duo of Giuseppe Schwarz (Brazil) and Rudolfo Schwarz (Brazil) 8-4 in No. 1 doubles action. In the No. 2 match, the C-N team of Jack Harvie (Snellville, Ga.) and Chris Acker (Knoxville, Tenn.) took down Graydon Dunn and Brian Reid 8-3. In the No. 3 match, C-N's Adriano Kira (Brazil) and Trent Slagle (Knoxville, Tenn.) dropped Hernando Saavedra and Michael Owens 8-6.
L-R won the No. 1, 2 and 3 singles matches before C-N rebounded to win the No. 4, 5 and 6 matches. Rodolfo Schwarz downed Reid 6-2, 6-3 in No. 5 singles action. Acker dominated Dunn 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles match. Kira scored the decisive point as he rallied from a 4-1 deficit to win the first set 7-5. He then controlled the second set, winning 6-0.
The Eagles return to action on March 22 in a match at conference rival Tusculum. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
