Carson-Newman Falls to Catawba, 5-4

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba rallied with four singles wins to claim a 5-4 win over visiting Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action on Friday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center.

Catawba improves to 11-8 overall and 2-4 in the SAC, while the Eagles fall to 3-9 and 3-5 in conference play.

C-N got off to a good start, winning two of the three doubles matches. Giuseppe Schwarz (Brazil) and Rudolfo Schwarz (Brazil) teamed up to defeat Catawba's Sean Soltan (Vetlanda, Sweden) and Uri Yarkoni (Kelowna, B.C., Canada), 8-6, in the No. 1 doubles match.

In the No. 3 doubles match, the C-N duo of Trent Slagle (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Adriano Kira (Brazil) took down Catawba's Tom Mitchell (Nanaimo, B.C., Canada) and Corey Eldridge (Sewell, N.J.), 8-3.

Slagle and Kira were the lone Eagles to win their respective singles matches. Catawba captured the No. 1, 2, 5 and 6 singles matches en route to the win.

The Eagles return to action on Monday in the first round of the SAC tournament.
