Lady Eagles Take Fourth at Queens Invitational
PONTE VEDRA, Fla. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles finished four
strokes back after a day-two 316 to finish fourth at the 2009
Queens Invitational played at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra,
Fla.
Senior Sarah Jane Sinard (Jefferson City, Tenn.) finished 13
strokes back after winning her first two tournaments of the fall.
The reigning South Atlantic Conference champion closed with a 77 on
day two to total 153 for the tournament.
Junior Jessica Tarbet also finished in the top ten. She took ninth
after carding a 76 on day two to follow her first-day 80 (156).
Freshman Melanie Manis (Louisville, Tenn.) bounced back with a 78
on day two, after firing 82 in the opening round. She finished tied
for 20th.
Sophomores Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) and Jennifer Oliver
(Knoxville, Tenn.) closed with matching 85s. Ray fired a 76 on day
one to close with a 161 for her two rounds, good for 26th.
Ashland University claimed the two-round team title with a
scorecard of 626 (311-315). Ashland's Erin Misheff captured the
individual championship trophy with a two-round total of 142
(72-70). Misheff was the only player in the 80-person field to come
in even and under par.
A scorecard playoff was used to determine the second and third
place finishers. By shooting at 37 on the back nine Valentina
Urquiola of Mount Olive earned second place and Newberry's Maria
Luz Besio took third with a 39 on the back nine. They both totaled
150 (75-75) each day.
Newberry posted a 627 (312-315) for second place in the
Invitational. Rounding out the top five were Belmont Abbey College,
Carson Newman and Barry.
