Lady Eagles Take Second at Newberry Invitational
HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Carson-Newman women’s golf
team finished second in the Newberry College Invitational after
shooting a 331 (+35) on Tuesday in the final round at Moss Creek
Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
C-N (339-331=670) finished nine strokes behind host Newberry (661)
for the team title. Both teams fired a 331 in Tuesday’s
round.
C-N senior Sarah Jane Sinard (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and junior
Jessica Tarbet (Knoxville, Tenn.) carded rounds of 82 (+8) to
finish the tournament in a tie for fifth place.
Sophomore Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) rallied with an 82 as well
to finish in the top ten. She closed in a tie for seventh with a
total of 167 (+18).
Sophomore Jennifer Oliver (Knoxville, Tenn.) turned in an 85 tie
for 18th, and finish in the top 20. Lady Eagle freshman Melanie
Manis (Louisville, Tenn.) carded an 85 and finished tied for
25th.
Armstrong Atlantic State (684) finished third, fourteen strokes
behind the Lady Eagles, while Catawba (687) and UNC Pembroke (690)
rounded out the top five.
C-N finished second among the seven South Atlantic Conference
schools in the tournament.
The University of Montevallo’s Emily Gibson won the
tournament with a 157. She posted the only two rounds in the
70’s (78-79) at the event.
C-N returns to action next month at the Desert Invitational played
at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
