Carson-Newman Women's Soccer Ranked 17th in NCAA Division II, Third in the Southeast Region
Kansas City, Kan. - The Carson-Newman women's soccer team
(2-0-0) is ranked 17th in NCAA Division II by the NSCAA Coaches
Poll, NSCAA officials announced Tuesday.
The Lady Eagles are the only South Atlantic Conference team listed
in the national top 25 and are also positioned third in the
Southeast Region.
Seattle Pacific is listed as the No. 1 team in the nation after
winning the Division II National Championship in 2008.
Columbus State of the Peach Belt Conference holds the top spot in
the Southeast Region and is followed by Armstrong Atlantic
State.
Other schools listed in the regional rankings from the SAC are
Lincoln Memorial (eighth), Tusculum (ninth) and Lenoir-Rhyne
(10th.)
Three automatic berths to the NCAA Division II Southeast Region
Tournament in November will be awarded to the tournament champions
of the SAC, Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas. Three teams will
also receive at-large berths.
Carson-Newman will complete its four-match homestand to start the
2009 campaign this weekend when it hosts Queens University (N.C.)
on Friday at 7:00 p.m., and Pfeiffer University on Friday at 6:00
p.m.
