No. 8 Carson-Newman Womens Soccer Ranked Second In NCAA Division II Southeast Region
INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 8 Carson-Newman College
Women’s Soccer Team (11-1-1, 3-0-1 SAC) is listed as second
in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Rankings, NCAA officials
announced Tuesday. These rankings, calculated by a mathematical
formula, are the official determinant for postseason play at the
Division II level.
The Lady Eagles drop from the top spot they held in the first week
of the rankings after tying Catawba College, 1-1, Saturday evening
in South Atlantic Conference play.
Columbus State University of the Peach Belt Conference takes over
first place and is the highest-ranked team nationally from the
Southeast Region as well (third).
Armstrong Atlantic State University is third this week while fellow
SAC schools Catawba, Tusculum College (21st nationally) and Wingate
University round out the top six.
The conference tournament champion from the SAC, Peach Belt and
Conference Carolinas will each be awarded automatic bids to the
2009 NCAA Division II Tournament while the three remaining
highest-ranked teams will receive at-large bids to the postseason.
