Lady Eagles defeat Wingate 5-0, advance to Food Lion SAC Championship

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The second-seeded Carson-Newman women's tennis team defeated third-seeded Wingate, 5-0, in the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament Friday afternoon at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.

With the win, the Lady Eagles (12-2) advance to their second straight SAC Championship match and will face No. 4 Brevard, which beat top-seeded Tusculum 5-2, at 12 p.m. on Saturday.

C-N swept all three doubles matches to build a 3-0 lead over Wingate (12-8). SAC Player of the Year Amanda Bartlett (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Taryn Cappadona (Kennesaw, Ga.) downed Wingate's Kara Stasikelis (Greer, S.C.) and Hollyn Alberghini (Stanfield, N.C.), 8-0, in No. 1 doubles.

The Lady Eagles' No. 2 doubles team of Elizabeth Sneed (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Cassie Moulton (Maryville, Tenn.) took down Samantha Alschlager (Burnsville, Minn.) and Pierce Dillard (Simpsonville, S.C.), 8-3.

In the No. 3 doubles match, C-N's Emily Sorah (Bristol, Tenn.) and Kylie Elliott (Maryville, Tenn.) defeated Zoe Hartas (Sydney, Australia) and Ewa Opala (Redziny, Poland), 9-7.

Sneed defeated Dillard 6-0 and 6-4 in No. 2 singles, while Cappadona won her No. 4 singles match over Alberghini 6-0 and 6-2 to secure the win for the Lady Eagles.
