Carson-Newman Volleyball Signs Lindsey Bryant For The 2010 Season

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman volleyball has signed one recruit during the early signing period. Lindsey Bryant will don the orange and blue of the Lady Eagles next fall, Head Volleyball Coach Shannon Miney announced today.

"I am extremely pleased to be given the opportunity to coach Lindsey,” said Mincey. “She is a quality young lady who will add size and versatility to our starting line-up. She plays for a strong club and will see a lot of strong competition throughout the club season. Lindsey will be one to watch as she matures for our squad. I foresee her being a top player in our league."

The Gainesville, Ga., native and North Forsyth High School standout has been named team MVP and Best Hitter, All-County, All-Region and was the state leader in hitting percentage in 2009 with 6.90 kills per set. A six-foot outside hitter,Bryant also plays for the A-5 Club out of Atlanta.

"I’m so excited about playing at Carson-Newman,” commented Bryant. “The Christian environment was a deciding factor. Throughout high school, I was blessed with great Christian friends so I’m glad that college will not change that positive influence in my life. I also am thrilled to be a part of the Carson-Newman volleyball team that seems to be really close. I was able to connect with them when I visited. Also, Coach Mincey seems to be the encouraging coach that I know I need to get me pumped and playing to the best of my ability.”

Bryant is also active off the court, as she is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and DECA while volunteering at the Humane Society and traveling to Brazil during the summer to do mission work with her church.

Bryant’s brother-in-law was a defensive end for the Samford football team while her cousin, Mary Shelton Bryant just finished her sophomore year at Samford as a midfielder on the soccer team.

Carson-Newman completed the 2009 season with a 23-10 record and a 12-4 mark in the South Atlantic Conference to finish second for the second straight year. The Lady Eagles advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament and won the first playoff game in school history, 3-2, over Catawba.
